The ZL402 LS1 based iron stroker short block is loaded with the kind of top quality hardware found in short blocks costing much more. It was the first choice for the experts at Car Craft magazine, who took an off-the-shelf SLP ZL402 stroker motor and produced over 575 horsepower, naturally aspirated.

Our ZL402 is built around a new GM LQ9 Gen III 6.0 liter block, a 4.00" forged steel crank, and 4.00" forged aluminum pistons.

This package is sold only in short-block form, minus manifolds, camshaft, oil pump, and other equipment. The advantage of this approach is it allows you to pick a combination best for you. SLP also sells cylinder heads and camshaft packages, and we'd be happy to recommend the best combination for you.

Although designed primarily for use in late-model F-Bodies and Corvettes, the ZL402 also makes a great choice for street rods, muscle cars, and trucks.
Best of all, it's sold outright, eliminating the shipping hassles and expenses of core returns.

You won't find a higher-quality, better value LS1 stroker motor anywhere!

NOTE: While placing your order, please specify make and model year that the 402 will be installed in. Be sure to order the correct ZL402 engine with the proper style reluctor wheel for your application (reference chart below). SLP's harmonic balancer/under-drive pulley is required for proper installation (or an equivalent pulley that is properly keyed) a stock balancer/pulley will NOT fit.

ZL402 Iron Short Block Includes the following:

  • 4.000" Callies 4340 forged steel crankshaft, balanced to rotating assembly
  • 4.000" SLP/Manley 2618 forged alloy pistons with -6.00cc dish (includes new rings and full-float pins)
  • 6.125" SLP/Manley 4340 forged steel H-beam rods
  • Includes new, factory-installed cam bearings; Clevite rod and main bearings
  • 11:1 compression ratio (nominal; ultimate compression ratio will depend upon heads and gaskets used)
  • 24 Tooth reluctor wheel
  • Designed for naturally aspirated applications
  • Capable of supporting up to 700+ HP
  • Meticulously assembled by SLP to OEM tolerances and specifications.
  • Oil pump, timing chain, camshaft, pans, plates, and covers not included.
  • ZL402 OEM-quality fender badges (pair).
